The brake system can be divided into the following categories
⑴According to the function of the braking system The braking system
can be divided into service braking system, parking braking system,
emergency braking system and auxiliary braking system. Among the
above brake systems, the service brake system and the parking brake
system are required for every vehicle.
⑵ Braking control energy Braking system can be divided into human
braking system, dynamic braking system and servo braking system.
The braking system that uses the driver's body as the only braking
energy source is called the human braking system; the system that
completely relies on the potential energy in the form of air
pressure or hydraulic pressure converted from the power of the
engine is called the dynamic braking system; Braking systems that
use human and engine power to brake are called servo braking
systems or power-assisted braking systems.
(3) According to the transmission method of braking energy, the
braking system can be divided into mechanical type, hydraulic type,
pneumatic type, electromagnetic type and so on. A braking system
that uses two or more energy-uploading methods at the same time is
called a combined braking system.
The general working principle of the braking system
The general working principle of a braking system is to use the
mutual friction between the non-rotating elements attached to the
body (or frame) and the rotating elements attached to the wheels
(or driveshafts) to prevent the wheels from turning or tending to
turn.
The working principle of the braking system can be illustrated by a
simple schematic diagram of the hydraulic braking system shown on
the right. A metal brake drum with the inner circular surface as
the working surface is fixed on the wheel hub and rotates with the
wheel. On the fixed brake base plate, there are two support pins
supporting the lower ends of the two arc-shaped brake shoes. A
friction plate is installed on the outer surface of the brake shoe.
A hydraulic brake wheel cylinder is also installed on the brake
base plate, and the oil pipe 5 is connected with the hydraulic
brake master cylinder installed on the frame. The piston 3 in the
master cylinder can be actuated by the driver via the brake pedal
mechanism.
When the driver steps on the brake pedal to make the piston
compress the brake fluid, the wheel cylinder piston presses the
brake shoe against the brake drum under the action of hydraulic
pressure, so that the brake drum reduces the rotation speed or
remains stationary.
The composition of a typical braking system of a car
The figure on the right shows a schematic diagram of the
composition of a typical braking system of a car. It can be seen
that the braking system generally consists of two main parts: the
brake control mechanism and the brake.
(1) Brake control mechanism It generates braking action, controls
braking effect and transmits braking energy to various components
of the brake, such as 2, 3, 4, 6 in the figure, as well as the
brake wheel cylinder and brake pipeline.
